‘When the bells go down’
‘When the bells go down’
One thing is for sure, when ‘the bells go down’ Incident Commanders are required to engage all their technical and non-technical skills acquired through quality realistic training and assessment. This is why Katherine Lamb, and the K Lamb Associates believe in including as many sensory cues as possible when facilitating formative, summative and revalidation assessments. From the sights and sounds and smells of a bustling command unit to the 1-2-1 interactions with peers, looking into the whites of someone's eyes contrasting their behaviours with their actions. The sometimes-tactile approach needed when meeting partner agency commanders for the first time. When ‘the bells go down’ it’s for real, aren't you glad you prepared the best way you can, taking part in the most realistic assessment environments possible.
In Oxfordshire Fire a KLA delivery team facilitated a SFJ Awards-Effective Command-ICL3 Revalidation Assessment Day. Supported from within the service with an actual Command Unit Team, a Command Support Officer and functional officers, each delegate faced a challenging scenario based upon a familiar risk with interaction from key role players. Well done to the delegates who immersed themselves in the day demonstrating many key skills in incident command.
Devon & Somerset Fire hosted a whole course of 4 delegates for a SFJ Awards Level 6 (ICL3) Award in Advanced Incident Command in Fire and Rescue Services. Excellent facilities enabled the KLA delivery team to maximise the learning opportunities. Well facilitated informative group discussions play a pivotal role in the overall learning experience. A great job from the delegates ensured the course was a success adding yet more excellent officers to the cadre.
North Yorkshire Fire and West Yorkshire Fire welcomed us to deliver their annual Effective Command Behavioural Marking Tool (EC) Assessor Training and Standardisation Exercise. Included in the subscription to EC we spent the day discussing latest incident command trends based on the national data from EC contrasting this with the service local data. Invaluable data aiding development of quality IC training for future commanders.
Greater Manchester Fire commissioned their first Tactical Commander Refresher and Group Decision Making Exercise. In partnership with Joe Hassell Command the day was a great success. With facilitated group discussions around topics such as attending a tactical coordinating group (TCG), roles and responsibilities of the Tactical Commander all culminating in a decision-making exercise.
