When a service subscribes to the Effective Command Behavioural Marking Tool (EC) the support does not end at the beginning of that journey. Katherine Lamb is a firm believer in maintaining standards of assessment not only for the K Lamb Associates (KLA) assessors but also the end user i.e., in-service assessors. Forming part of the subscription, an annual EC Standardisation and Assessor training day is carried out by KLA. These days are an important part of ensuring consistency of assessments that in turn leads to a consistent experience by candidates. This week Surrey Fire and Rescue Service welcomed KLA for their standardisation day. Following input on the EC tool and the latest improvements, talk quickly turns to the data. Both national and local data is explored which leads to interesting debate about the direction of travel for Incident Command Training. The afternoon session continues with an assessor standardisation exercise using one of the EC scenarios. A worthwhile day that proved invaluable for Surrey.

Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service once again facilitated their own SFJ Awards Level 3 award (Initial) course ably supported on-site by a member of the KLA delivery team. This delivery model is favoured by the client at this level with delegates all gaining an invaluable insight into what steps are required to advance their journey into Incident Command.

In Jersey Fire and Rescue Service a KLA delivery team facilitated more SFJ – EC – ICL1 Assessments utilising
XVR Simulation. The assessments were well received by delegates, feedback includes this comment;

“Would welcome the opportunity to do this training more frequently as it removes the concern of 'just getting through it' and allows for more expansive thought and reflection.”

Command Support Officer training was the course requested by
Humberside Fire & Rescue Service. A long-time supporter of KLA, we sent a delivery team to deliver 2 back-to-back courses. A wonderful experience for the candidates as they were taught how to maximise the effectiveness of the role.

West Midlands Fire Service invited KLA in to facilitate the Incident Command element (ICL3) of their Area Managers Promotion round. The team commented that the candidate standard was extremely high, we wish all of them the best of luck with the remainder of the process.

All Levels of Incident Command Training, Fire Control Incident Command Training, Promotion Processes, Strategic Mentoring & Support, we can advise you on these and the many products available from KLA to fulfil your IC training needs as well as explaining more about the Effective Command (EC) Behavioural Marking Framework for IC.
